Srinagar, February 16 (KNO) : Supporting the protest program called by the traders, transporters and employees unions, Jama’at-e-Islami Saturday condemned the atmosphere created by some ‘communalist elements’ to harass and intimidate the Muslims in Jammu and cause damage to their persons and property. According to a statement issued to KNO, Jama’at spokesperson said, “The way the communalist elements have created an atmosphere to harass and intimidate the Muslims in Jammu and cause damage to their persons and property and thereby targeted the Muslim populated areas and various Masajid and the partial role played by the local police which instead of stopping this hooliganism and lawlessness, looked like the spectators, is most condemnable.” “This attitude clearly depicts the obvious anti-Muslim role of those holding the reigns of the state. Dozens of vehicles belonging to Kashmiri Muslims were doused into flames by these unruly mobs before the eyes of police and Muslim populated areas and Masajid were stoned in presence of the policemen who did not bother to stop the mob from committing vandalism and unlawful activities,” Jama’at said. They said at some places, police with these ‘rioters’ were seen to throw tear gas shells towards the Muslims gathered to protect their properties seemingly to clear the way for rioters. “At some places, a few policemen were seen with these mobs with folded hands requesting the rioters to stop stone throwing,” he added. Jama’at said all these pictures and videos are circulating on the social media as a sufficient proof against the dubious role of Jammu police. “The way some local mainstream political parties supported the Jammu bandh call with an eye on the coming elections is most condemnable showing that such leaders have no concern for the interests of the Muslim community but are too crazy to become the rulers here by hook or by crook,” they said. Strongly condemning the ‘partial role’ of Jammu police during the ongoing anti-Muslim riots in Jammu, Jama’at expressed its deep anguish over the ‘dubious’ role of some local pro-India political parties who by support the Jammu strike fully exposed themselves and thereby encouraged the anti-Muslim riots. Jama’at wanted the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) to frame a strategy rising above its particular interests so as to frustrate the frequent anti-Kashmir activities of the Jammu communalists. “On one hand, they are earning millions and billions from the Kashmiri people, but on the other hand, they leave no stone unturned whenever they get a chance to stab the Kashmiris in their chests! In these circumstances, it is the need of the hour for the entire public leadership, civil society and intelligentsia to come together and frame a joint and effective strategy so as to foil all such anti-Muslim dubious plots,” he said. In the meanwhile, in some areas the rioters attacked Kashmiri businessmen and students with the support of the communal anti-Muslim forces and injured a number of them, Jama’at said. They said the local administration has miserably failed to give any protection to these victims. “In these circumstances, the Kashmir police is advised to learn a lesson how to treat with the local people who happen to be their relatives or neighbours and instead of committing atrocities, at least do justice with them. The local police should not suppress the genuine voice of the Kashmiri people but safeguard their basic rights which is their main duty and goal,” he said. Jama’at said being the torch-bearer for the protection of the human rights as it believes in Islam which showed the deviated man the real way to humanity and upheld the real justice, feels duty bound to ask both the governments of India and Pakistan to come forward after joining the real representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and find a stable, durable and just solution of the long-pending human problem of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of the concerned people here fulfilling all the demands of justice. Meanwhile, Jama’at decided to pledge its full support to ‘peaceful protest program’ by Kashmir based trade bodies, transporters and employees unions.(KNO)
